One of the most exciting new updates in Windows 7 is the ability to update the most popular Windows software without having to download and install an entire new operating system. One of these programs is System Update Readiness Tool (SUPT). Microsoft released SUPT with option to turn it on or off. The most important update in SUPT update warning has been adjusted so that it’s more efficient at preventing the chance for errors, if you choose to disable this feature, then your PC will be less secure especially when using applications that lack updates. This release also adds a lot more functionality for users who have disabled their Anti-Virus by installing Microsoft Security Essentials. Users will be able to download and install updates that are not digitally signed while their Anti-Virus is disabled. It also allows users who have turned off some critical services while installing updates will restart some of the missing services while doing so. Version 1.5 adds the ability to block the "new auto update" feature in Windows 7/8, so your Windows Update is always manual, not automatic. But if you don't plan on using WU anymore, this program may not be what you need. It's made for people who really want control over their Windows Update process or don't use it at all. For people who want to customize their Windows Update process, this program will also allow you to customize the reliability of service packs, long term support (LTS) updates, urgent-needed updates, and others. There are lots of other customization options too. This can be used to prevent Windows Update from downloading updates that you're not sure about or don't need. It’s perfect for businesses that require high level of security while enabling your IT staff to retain control over their own computers. Version 1.6 includes several small fixes and improvements. These include: Note: Some users have reported "sticky keys" issues when using this tool with third party mouse drivers. In order to avoid these issues, use a fully supported mouse driver from Microsoft or from one of the major mouse manufacturers. The program is free.
